Experience the mysteries of space, earth, nature, and life
The environment that envelops us and various scientific principles that apply to the earth, nature, space, and within our own bodies are analyzed through observation and experiment on this “Experience the Earth”floor. Consider, feel and discuss mankind and our place in the global environment in this activity-driven exhibition zone.
Global Environment Search
Natural Environment Search
Creatures that survive in the most extreme natural environments have evolved their own lifestyles and protective mechanisms. Their abillity to survive and the evolutionary process are presented.
“Past, present and future” developments in human attempts to challenge the mysteries of space are introduced with explanations of keywords to foster better understanding of our current knowledge of the cosmos.
Discover your own hidden abilities, and realize the physical mechanisms and functions of the five senses that you would not normally notice. Are you ready to take on the challenges in the challenge zone?
What would happen “if” all the energy consumed for life was used simultaneously by everyone on earth? Conduct a review based on the perspective of this overwhelming “volume”, and recognize for yourself the wisdom of “recycling” to sustain mankind.
9F Techno Town
Scientific principles are analyzed through technologies that support our lives
On this floor, scientific principles are explained simply via advanced industrial technology and scientific technology that supports our daily lives under a science and technology theme. Everyday products and machines are used to analyze the “technologies and principles” that are hidden within, to reaffirm the superior creativity of mankind in this active exhibition zone.
The principles of electricity and the mechanism incorporated by industrial technology are introduced through various everyday electrical products, thus bolstering our understanding of electrical science that is now so inextricably intertwined with our modern lifestyle.
Enjoy the experience of studying automotive engineering, such as motive energy mechanisms and their structures.
Scientific expertise is put to full use in our electricity poles, traffic signals, and underground facilities. Such facilities and machinery, etc. are reviewed, and the excellence of modern-day science and technology in support of our urban lifestyles becomes apparent.
Experience the capabilities of advanced robotic technologies, as well as being introduced to futuristic robot concepts, etc. that allow a wealth of technology, visions, and imagination to be experienced.
A simple introduction to digital technologies, such as programs and the Internet, which facilitate our daily use of computers through actual experience.
The future potential of information and communications technology is introduced by experiencing the technological transition from the analog to digital era.
Experience scientific knowledge, such as mechanisms, motion, energy, and the transmission of force more than ever before by actually playing with a variety of toys!
8F Wonder Town
Scientifically examine the wonders of sight, sound, light and quantity
The wonders of sight, sound, light and quantity, etc. can be examined on this floor. Various phenomena around us are reviewed from different perspectives through our senses. Their principles can be scientifically understood using this hands-on exhibition zone.
Wonder of Sight and the Senses
Mysterious phenomena that occur because of differences between visual input and our other senses can be enjoyed via various optical illusions.
Wonder of Sound
Study science by visualizing sounds, which cannot ordinarily be seen, in a variety of formats. Experience audio visualization and creation using a variety of sounds.
Wonder of Light
The wonder of light can be experienced by playing with optical characteristics, such as transmission, reflection and inflection, in this exhibition. Technologies that incorporate these optical characteristics are commonplace in our lives.
Wonder of Quantity and Shape
Convert complicated mathematical concepts into shapes or try to solve problems using games or puzzles. In this way, you can have fun studying quantity and shapes.
The Museum of Science’s welcome floor-gate-way to all the edutainment
Take an elevator from the 1st floor. It brings you directly to the welcome floor at the Chiba City Museum of Science. This is the gateway to our futuristic planetarium, and interactive exhibitions and activity spaces on the 8th – 10th floors. What’s more, it houses a temporary exhibition room, the museum shop, and the Science Art Square.
A dramatic visual arena for imagination and creation. Stars and projected images are fused in the hybird planetarium. There are over 10 million stars in the night sky, and this realistic rendition is sure to stimulate interest in the space. Dynamic imagery creates new attractions. Prepare to be amazed in this impressive space.
Digital images are projected so as to make full use of the 23-meter domed screen, and as such supports a wide range of age groups, for example, presenting healing programs for adults. Wheelchairs and infrared wireless systems for hearing-impaired individuals can also be used.
The museum shop at the Chiba City Museum of Science offers a variety of items ranging from craftwork and experimental kits suitable for a wide range of age groups to scientific products and original museum goods. Why not search out the perfect souvenir to commemorate your visit?
